LIFT

Prehabilitation

The period of time between diagnosis and first treatment is crucial to determining how well you will withstand the remainder of your cancer journey.  The LIFT program is essential to improving the function of your muscles and bones and maintaining function as you withstand difficult treatments.

This is one of 2 pages at this website that describe the exercise program we recommend for you to do as you train before treatment.   This page focuses on RESISTANCE EXERCISE.

The general LIFT page has information to get you started with resistance exercise.  This page is specific to the program for the period of time known as prehabilitation.

For PREHABILITATION, the recommended dose of Resistance Exercise is as follows:

Frequency:  Every other day

Intensity: you should feel that it is difficult to complete the last repetitions and sets in each session.  If it is not difficult, you should increase the resistance.

Time: the program may take between 30-60 minutes per session

Type:  Resistance exercises

Sets:  varies, see table below

Repetitions:  Varies, see table below

If you are not already doing resistance exercise, build up to this dose.  Below is the resistance exercise program for someone who has not previously done this type of exercise.  We assume here that you have 3 weeks before treatment starts. Adapt the program to your needs
